Note: Junior age is determined as of August 1, 2007.
Adult/Senior age is determined as of December 31, 2007.
General Guidelines: This is an outdoor competition. All
1st round matches will begin Friday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m.
All athletes must provide proof of age with either a driver’s
license, birth certificate, or with current USTA card. Entry
form and signed waiver should be mailed together with entry fee
(check or credit card). When registering, please indicate
NTRP rating and USTA membership number and any other information
useful for seeding in the sport-specific section of the entry
form. If registering for doubles, each athlete MUST
register separately and list partner on the registration form.
This is a USTA
(www.usta.com) sanctioned tournament. Membership
cards are REQUIRED at the competition-site.
Juniors may register for a max of 1 singles and 1 doubles event.
Adults may register for a max of 1 singles and 1 doubles event.
Refunds: No refunds will be issued except for the
following circumstances: athletes who have advanced in a
District Tournament after registering for the SGA or unless
there is an insufficient number of entries resulting in the
cancellation of a division. Those individuals must contact the
SGA office by July 20 so a refund can be remitted.
Dress Code: The following attire is appropriate to
participate: Tops: collared shirt, t-shirt, tank-tops (women
only). Shorts/Skirts: men's shorts, women's shorts or tennis
skirts. Shoes: tennis shoes only. Ball caps, hats, visors,
warm-ups, running suits, and sweat shirts are appropriate. The
following attire is prohibited: black soled tennis shoes, cleats
or running shoes, torn or ripped shirts, tank-tops (for men),
short-shorts, and attire with inappropriate messages or images.
Court Surface: Outdoor, collegiate regulation hard
surface.
Description of Events: Open Singles,
Doubles - No age or ability limitations; expected to consist
of ranked
sectional and district players and current or past varsity and
high school players. A Singles and Doubles -Those
players of 4.0 or 4.5 ability as based on the National Tennis
Rating Program Scale; A players regularly
play local or nearby tournaments and compete on a regular basis.
B Singles, Doubles - A rating of 3.5 or less
on the NTRP scale; players will generally have two years or less
playing experience. When registering, please
indicate NTRP rating and USTA membership number and any other
information useful for seeding in the
sport-specific section of the entry form.
NTRP Rating Categories / General Characteristics of Playing
Levels:
1.0 This player is just starting to play tennis.
1.5 This player has limited experience and is still working
primarily on getting the ball into play.
2.0 This player needs on-court experience. This player has
obvious stroke weakness but is familiar
with basic positions for singles and doubles
play.
2.5 This player is learning to judge where the ball is going but
overall court coverage is weak. This
player can sustain a rally of slow pace with
other players of the same ability.
3.0 This player is consistent with medium paced shots, but is
not comfortable with all strokes and
lacks control when trying for directional intent,
depth or power.
3.5 This player has achieved improved stroke dependability and
direction on moderate shots, but
still lacks depth and variety. This player is
starting to exhibit more aggressive net play, has
developed court coverage, and is developing
teamwork in doubles.
4.0 This player has dependable strokes including directional
intent and depth on both forehand and
back-hand sides on moderate shots. This player
also has the ability to use lobs, overheads,
approach shots, and volleys with some success.
4.5 This player has begun to master the use of power and spins
and is beginning to handle pace,
has sound footwork, can control depth of shots,
and is beginning to vary tactics according to
opponents. This player can hit first serves with
power accuracy and place the second serve
and is able to rush the net successfully.
5.0 This player has good shot anticipation, frequently has an
outstanding shot, or exceptional
consistency around which a game may be structured. This
player can regularly hit winners or
force errors off of short balls and can put away
volleys and overhead smashes. This player has
good depth and spins on most second serves.
5.5 This player has developed power and/or consistency as a
major weapon. This player can vary
strategies and style of play in a competitive situation and
hits dependable shots in a stress
situation.
6.0-7.0 These players will generally not need NTRP ratings.
Rankings or past-rankings will speak for
themselves.
Competition Format: Players may enter a singles and a
doubles event in the SGA. Juniors entering the adult
class will only be allowed to compete in the OPEN division. A
consolation bracket will be played for Adults losing
in the first round only. The consolation rounds are
single elimination. Competition will follow USTA rules
(www.usta.com),
regulations and codes of conduct. Commissioners will determine
eligibility for division of com-petition. Matches will be the
best 2 of 3 sets and will utilize regular deuce-add scoring. If
a third set is necessary,
a match tie break will be played (play to 10 pts, must win by
2). Junior tournament will be a full feed-in
with consolation determining 3rd & 4th place. Commissioners have
the authority to alter the scoring format if
necessitated by weather. Maximum 32 entries in each draw. All
players must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to
scheduled match time. Point and game penalties will apply for
tardy players. Forfeits will be determined by
Commissioners per USTA governing rules. USTA officials will be
on-site during match play. Players will be
asked to “call their own matches”. If a lines person or umpire
is needed, one will be provided, but only if
absolutely necessary. Tennis balls will be provided.
