Note: Grade determined as of the 2007 -
2008 school year.
General Information: Teams must be
gender-specific and players may participate on only one team per division.
Division category is determined by the grade of the oldest team player as
of the 2007 - 2008 school year.
Team coaches must complete the team entry form with
a signed roster/waiver. Out-of-state teams must use the
same exact team name from qualifying State Games competition for verification
purposes. Each individual player
will be registered by his/her coach and must sign the roster/waiver; if under 18
a guardian must sign the roster/
waiver. Grade verification will be required for youth teams in the form of
the final report card or transcript for the 2007-2008 school year. A typed
or printed roster must be turned in at the close of registration. Any roster
changes must be made 15 minutes prior to the team’s first game. Coaches will
be required to furnish player proof of grade upon request from Commissioners at
any time during competition. Personnel NOT listed on the roster are not
allowed in team bench areas. All protests MUST be made before the game starts
and MUST be submitted in writing to the Commissioner.
Competition Rules and Format: The SGW has a
Zero Tolerance policy. Commissioners reserve the right to
suspend or have teams forfeit play for unsportsmanlike conduct from players,
coaches or spectators.
Unsportsmanlike conduct resulting in an any type of altercation on the court,
the venue grounds, etc, will result in
a team disqualification for the entire tournament with no refund. Spectators
affiliated with the teams are responsible
for knowing and adhering to the rules and policies of the tournament. It is the
responsibility of the coaches
to control their team and spectators. All athletes are responsible for adhering
to all applicable high school,
NCAA or college association rules and regulations particularly regarding
eligibility.
Youth divisions will use National State High School
Federation basketball rules (www.nfhs.org) and adults will
use NCAA rules (www.ncaa.org), except the shot clock will NOT be used. Teams
will be guaranteed four
games. The tournament format will be based on the number of teams that register
in each division. State Games
of the West reserves the right to combine or cancel divisions.
Any player receiving two technical fouls during a
game will be ejected. Any team receiving four total technical
fouls in one game will forfeit that game. All age groups will use the
three-point line. Males will use men’s basket-balls and females will use women’s
basketballs.
Each team will be required to provide a
scorekeeper or timer. Teams must furnish their own warm-up balls.
Warm-up time will be 5-10 minutes prior to tip-off. Forfeit time will be 5
minutes from game time. Each team will
be allowed 3 one-minute time-outs per game and 1 one-minute time-out in
overtime. All ages will play two 20-
minute halves. Clock will run continuously until 2 minutes remain in each half,
then the clock will stop for all dead
ball situations. If a team is up by more than 15 points with 2 minutes left in a
game, the clock will NOT stop.
Halftime will be five minutes long. Overtime will be three minutes with the
clock stopping for all dead ball situations.
If needed, a second overtime will be sudden death and decided by the first team
to score 2 points. For
medal round games, all ages will play two 16-minute halves with the clock
stopping for all dead ball situations.
Each overtime will be three minutes with the clock stopping for all dead ball
situations.
Dress Code: Each team member must wear a
numbered jersey or t-shirt.
